The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been present in Gabon since 1974, working closely with the Gabonese government to promote sustainable development and reduce poverty.
Missions
The UNDP in Gabon aims to support national authorities in implementing public policies with high social impact, particularly in education, health, environment, good governance, and economic inclusion.
The UNDP is committed to helping Gabon achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Achievements
The UNDP supported the launch of the Community Development Emergency Program (PUDC), which aims to improve the living conditions of rural populations by providing basic infrastructure, such as clean water, electricity, and healthcare.
The PUDC has enabled the rehabilitation of 3,480 classrooms, the construction of 15 new schools, and the training of 1,400 teachers in isolated regions.
The UNDP has also supported the installation of 200 water pumping stations and the introduction of solar energy systems in 100 villages, providing over 150,000 people with access to clean water and sustainable energy [5][2].
Perspectives
The UNDP plans to continue supporting Gabon in implementing the Gabon Emergent Strategic Plan (PSGE) and the SDGs.
The UNDP is committed to strengthening inclusive governance and climate change mitigation, particularly through the « Climate Promise » initiative and the CAFI 2 and BIOFIN projects.
